About Us

Library is “the place where knowledge resides”. Library is considered as the nucleus of a college. Library is a reservoir of information and knowledge. Hence it plays a crucial role in the dissemination of knowledge. A user-friendly library impacts positively the learning process of any institution. It plays a vital role in preserving valuable materials, fostering community engagement, and collaborating with faculty to integrate library resources into the curriculum.

Government First Grade College for Women' Balmatta Mangalore, Library is equipped with E granthalaya, A Digital Agenda for Library Automation and Networking – is a Web Based Integrated Library Management Software developed in National Informatics Centre (NIC). Library has a collection of 13,850 books. The OPAC (online public access catalogue) depicts the online library database of resources like books, journals, e-books, etc. Barcode technology is used for easy transaction. OPAC facility is available which allows the readers to search the books by Author, Title, Publisher, Accession Number and subject. The College Library functions on all working days from 9.30 A.M. to 4.30 P.M. and on Saturday 9.00 A.M. to 1 P.M. It is closed on Sundays and Public Holidays.

  • Library is equipped with three computers which is meant for students and staff. They can browse the Internet during their free time.

  • Inter-library Loan facility is available. When a particular book is not available in the library, arrangements are made to procure it from other libraries.
  • During the Semester Exams, books are issued for a long period of time and students are permitted to return the books after the exams.

Book-Bank
Book-Bank facility is one of the important services which can be availed by the students from the under privileged sections of the society. Government provides funds to purchase books for SC/ST students. The college has a total number of 5460 books in the Book-Bank and SC and ST students can borrow up to 5 books at the beginning of each semester and retain the same till the end of the semester.

Library Automation
Library Automation is the use of computers to carry out traditional library services like acquisition, cataloging and circulation. Our college library is fully computerized with the help of E-Granthalaya Integrated Library Software Management System(ILMS) developed by the National Information Centre(NIC), New Delhi. E-Granthalaya ILMS server is hosted on the cloud. Web based data entry has helped to expedite online Data Entry. In addition, bar-coding of books is in progress.
